We all know that the first step when connecting with someone new is learning his or her name—but what if you aren't familiar with the name or its pronunciation? Do you feel awkward? Does it make you feel uncomfortable to repeat the name? What if not knowing how to say someone's name stops you from getting to know them better?
Here at The Name Project, we want to help build meaningful connections and that starts with the very first step: LEARNING ONE ANOTHER'S NAMES—the most personal and unique part of ourselves.
Help us build a resource where people can learn from each other. UPLOAD an audio or video file saying your first name (and your last name too if you like!). When explaining your name, you can include information like:
1. What people find difficult about your name (spelling, pronunciation etc.)
2. the linguistic or cultural history of your name
3. whether or not you like your name
4. a nickname you have or prefer
5. anything else interesting about your name
As our Name Library grows, we will add a name list below for your listening, viewing, and learning enjoyment! Thank you for helping build community!
